Edom (ee-duhm) A nation south and southeast of the Dead Sea. According to Genesis 36.1-43, the Edomites were descendants of Esau, Jacob's brother. Egypt (ee-jihpt) A nation southwest of Israel. Egypt was the place where the Israelites lived as slaves. Moses led them out of Egypt to freedom.
Ephesus (ef-uh-suhs) An important seaport on the Aegean Sea. Ephesus was the home of the Temple of Artemis, large theaters, a stadium for gladiator contests, and libraries. The apostle Paul worked in Ephesus for about three years and wrote a letter to the Christians living there.
