Reading Toolbox: Places to Remember
D Damascus  (duh-mas-kuhs) The capital city of Syria and a major trading center in the ancient Near East.  The two rivers flowing into Damascus (Abana and Pharpar) watered its orchards and gardens, making the city a beautiful oasis in the middle of the desert.  

David's City  When used in the Old Testament, David's City refers to the part of Jerusalem captured from the Jebusites by King David.  In the New Testament, it refers to the town of Bethlehem, David's hometown, where Jesus was born.
