Canaan (kay-nuhn) The name of the land where the people of Israel settled. In the Bible, Canaan is often called the Promised Land. It was later called Israel. Colossae (kuh-los-ee) An important New Testament city in Asia Minor located about 10 miles east of Ephesus. Colossae was known for its wool and textile industry. The apostle Paul wrote an important letter to the Christians who lived here (the Letter to the Colossians).
Corinth (kor-inth) An important city of the ancient Greek world, known for its theaters, market places, and temples for pagan gods. Corinth was a place where many different cultures and religions could be found. Paul wrote at least two letters to the Christians who lived there.
Cush (koosh) The Hebrew name for Ethiopia, the region south of Egypt that included parts of the present countries of Ethiopia and Sudan.
