Thessalonica (thes-uh-luh-ni-kuh) A huge and busy seaport in northern Greece. Thessalonica was built in 316 B.C. by one of the generals of Alexander the Great, who named the city for Alexander's wife, Thessalonike. The apostle Paul wrote two letters to the Christians living there.
