Reading Toolbox: Places to Remember
R Red Sea  The Hebrew name yam suph means "Sea of Reeds" and normally refers to the marshes and fresh water lakes near the eastern part of the Nile Delta.  In the Greek translation of the Hebrew Bible made about 200 B.C. (the Septuagint), the "Sea of Reeds" was called "Red Sea."  

Rome  The capital city of the Roman Empire, one of the largest kingdoms of the ancient world. Rome controlled much of the area around the Mediterranean Sea during New Testament times.  Rome is located in present day Italy.
