Media (mee-dee-uh) A nation in what is today northwest Iran. Media became one of the most important provinces of the Persian Empire. Mesopotamia A larger area of land in the ancient Near East, Mesopotamia included the area bounded by the Tigris River on the east and the Euphrates River on the west. Mesopotamia was home to several different peoples and powerful kingdoms, including the Assyrians (in the north) and the Babylonians (in the south).
Midian (mid-ee-uhn) A desert nation south of the Dead Sea. The Midianites were considered the descendants of Midian, a son of Abraham and Keturah. The Midianites were among the "people of East," a general description for the nomads who lived in the desert areas of Arabia.
Moab (moh-ab) A nation east of the Dead Sea. According to Genesis 19.30-38, the Moabites were descendants of Lot, the nephew of Abraham.
Mount of Olives A hill east of Jerusalem good for growing olives. Jesus prayed there just before he was arrested in Jerusalem.
