Ammon  (uh-mon)  A nation east of Israel, across the Jordan River.  Israel and Ammon often fought over land boundaries.  According to Genesis 19.30-38, the Ammonites descended from Ben-ammi, the son of Lot, a nephew of Abraham.  

Assyria (uh-sihr-ee-uh)  A nation northeast of Israel in Mesopotamia.  Assyria was an enemy of Israel.
